Looking ahead: 2018

Booking under: Nicole & Keith

This time last year, we celebrated one year of blogging here on ABF2. Today, we again have cause to celebrate: it’s been a happy 2 years of ABF2 blog posts!

Looking back, we’re amazed at how far we’ve come since we first hatched the idea for this site back on 2015. With over 100 blog posts covering two books and many other topics, it’s been an amazing ride – and we’re not done yet!

As you know, 2018 is a World Cup year, and the two of us are football fanatics. That’s why our book for 2018 will be…

The Five Mindsets (Pt 2)

Booking under: Nicole

The cover photo in my last post in 2017 is a roller coaster not because I like this amusement ride (not at all!), but this precisely described how I felt this past week. Why? Story time….

Whilst I enjoy what I am doing now in consulting, I am always open to opportunities outside even if I am not actively looking. Recently, a headhunter approached me with a promising opportunity working for a very prestigious global firm. I found the job description and the firm itself stood out from all the other Linkedin messages I received so I thought there was no harm to give it a tab and test myself.

Then, the dilemma began. After going through interviews, they liked me and I soon received an offer from this firm with a very competitive compensation package…. something that I would be dumb to reject in monetary terms. What to do now? While tons of considerations and numbers were running on my head, I tried to be as rational as possible and did a risk analysis on either staying at my current firm or making a leap to a new firm. The following five mindsets also did their part in helping me make this decision.

A Well-designed Life (Pt 2)

Booking under: Nicole

I am very honored to be writing the 100th post on A Booking For Two so it took me a bit longer than usual to publish it. Hopefully it’s worth the wait!

December is the last month we work on this book, but this doesn’t mean our life design stops here. Instead of giving a boring summary of the key elements in all chapters, Bill and Dave make it easy for us by introducing simply five mindsets that will constitute and drive our life design forward.

A Well-designed life (PT 1)

Congratulations to Nicole! We’ve been so busy with everything else we’ve forgotten that she’s the writer of post #100 on this blog! What an accomplishment! Thanks also to each and every one of you who have read a century of posts here on ABF2. We’re very grateful!

As we enter the last chapter of Designing your life, our authors begin by dropping a pretty big truth: there’s no such thing as a perfectly balanced, evenly divided life. However, there is a set of five mindsets that can help us to design our lives forward, to continue growing even as we face disruptions and changes in our daily living:

Mentioning Mentors (Pt 1)

Booking under: Keith

Last time, we looked at building a team. We learnt that as we go on our life design journeys, there are many people who support and guide us. While some are on the periphery and some are closely involved, what everyone needs is a mentor (or a few!).

Today, I’ll be looking at a few mentors who have impacted me in my life. They have contributed to my growth in various areas and I will always be grateful to them!

Building A Team (Pt 2)

Along the course of life design, one person’s power is not enough to get you where you want to be. At work, we often collaborate with supervisors and colleagues to deliver the tasks. At home, the biggest support team is right there to get our back. At leisure, we have a group of close friends to laugh and chill with. All these contexts involve people who are incremental in supporting and adding color to our lives.

You probably have some ideas about who these people are but what role does each of them play? Bill and Dave came up with the following…

Building a Team (Pt 1)

Booking under: Keith

As an avid football fan, I love the concept of a great team. Who can forget the magnificent sides Sir Alex Ferguson built in the late 2000s/early 2010s? Rooney, Ronaldo, Tevez, Berbatov… those were the days!

Alas, team-building also features in our life design process, but in a different way. Instead of a group of people running after a ball, the team is a group of people who will help you in your life. Here’s the lineup:

Fail-proofing (Pt 2)

Whenever people think of Virgo, the first few words coming to their minds are perfectionist, analytical, and responsible. Thank you for saying that! As a typical Virgo, I absolutely agree. Knowing myself, this personality has been instilled in me for almost a quarter of a century and has shaped my character in school, work, and personal life. At the same time, I have identified an improvement area in one of these traits…
